    エレファントマン

    今回は１９８０年公開の映画。プロメテウス症候群を患った身体障碍者が、その彼を治療した医師たちを通じて心を開いていく過程を描いた映画です。 今回の映画でエレファントマンの主治医のアンソニー・ホプキンスがエレファントマン（ ジョン・メリック  ）と初めて会いに行く途中での工事現場の蒸気と杭打ちが、心臓の鼓動の高まりを演出していて、緊張感にあふれ、久しぶりに画面に釘付けになりました。   その主治医はあの羊たちの沈黙のアンソニー・ホプキンス。若き時代の彼ですが、CGなどをはるかに凌駕する 存在感は 、当時から変わりません。希代の名優ですね。 ちなみに羊たちの沈黙では人肉をおいしそうに食しているのにウィキによると実際はなんとなんとベジタリアンとのことで、当たり前ですが、人は見かけで判断してはいけない。  当然今回の映画の ジョン・メリック  をエレファントマン呼んではいけないのと同様です。

    とても重いシーンが多々あり、人間の恐ろしさも描いています。   ジョン・メリック   いわく You see...people are frightened...by what they don't understand.　（自分の知らないものに、人々は恐れるのだ。）が人間の負の部分を象徴しているかのようです。

    自身が小学生のころ、私の姉たちがこの映画を話題にしていたのを今でも覚えています。それ以来過去４０数年間いつも心のどこかに引っかかってい映画の一つでした。４０年間もなにやってんだかとは思いますが、北海道、沖縄、富士山一度は行ってみたいですが、いまだに自分が行っていないのと同じで、いつでも行けるからという慢心から今回の映画初視聴に至りました。
