以前視聴したエリザベスの続編です。「エリザベス:ゴールデン・エイジ」は、16世紀のイングランドを舞台にした歴史ドラマで、ケイト・ブランシェットがエリザベス1世を演じています。彼女は強い意志と決意で国を導き、迫り来る困難に立ち向かいます。あいかわらずケイト・ブランシェット演じる英リザべス1世はなんか神々しく、あの女王のために、命をはって国を守る気持ちわかります。当方おっさんですが、国を守るため筋トレだ~。

監督のシェカール・カプールは、美しい映像や華やかな衣装、そして壮大な音楽で時代背景を生き生きと描き出しています。物語は、イングランドとスペインの政治的な紛争や、王国を分裂させる宗教的な緊張感など、時代背景を生き生きと描いています。

今回の映画については前作の”エリザベス”同様、下町の英語が皆無なので、聞きやすい部類に入ると思います。英語学習者にとって、この映画は、英語力を向上させるだけでなく、英語圏の歴史や文化を学ぶ貴重な機会となります。例えば数で圧倒するスペインの無敵艦隊が英国沿岸まで迫った時、さながら鎌倉時代の元寇のように、嵐が味方になりました。その際、嵐の風を利用した焼き討ち船(敵の艦船などを破壊するため爆発物を積んで流した)を使って相手に大きな損害を与えたシーンなどとても興味深く思いました。

当たり前ですが豊かな言語表現や生き生きとした描写が語彙力や理解力を向上させ、魅力的なストーリーやキャラクターが視聴者を魅了します。「エリザベス:ゴールデン・エイジ」は、英国歴史ドラマが好きな人には必見の作品であり、英語学習者にとっては、英語力と英語圏の歴史・文化について学ぶ絶好の機会となります。
