奇跡の海

『奇跡の海』(原題:Breaking the Waves)  は1996年に制作された映画。 手持ちカメラ撮影やチャプターごとに物語が進んでいくなど、この手の手法になじみが全くなかったので違和感がありましたが、主演の エミリー・ワトソンの怪演が際立っていました。
主人公のベス(エミリー・ワトソン)の夫が下半身不随になり寝たきりになったしまうと、彼に生きる希望を見出させる唯一の方法が、ほかの男たちとの性的な関係をもちその話を夫にすることでした。夫との愛のためなら何でもするべスはほかの男と関係することで次第に精神が壊れていくようにみえます。しかしこれは第3者からの視点であって実はべスは最後までいたって夫への愛という純粋な心を持ち続けます。

この映画は内容のみならず、性について考えさせられました。
性的に奔放なことや世の中をにぎわしている不倫において第3者の立場から白か黒で判断するのはとても楽です。一方一歩踏み込んで、当事者の視点に立ち寄ると深層心理において多数の性的関係を代替行為として行っている人もいるということです。例えば、幼少期の愛情不足や性的虐待の記憶からの逃避として多数の性的関係を代替行為として行うことです。今回の映画のケースは予想外でしたが。いままで世界中そしてこの日本でも性的に緩い方々は男女問わずさんざん見てきましたが、実はこの映画の主人公のように人一倍純粋な方々もいたのではないかと考えさせられます。そのような方々とも今まで関係を今まで切ってきたことに対して自責の念にかられております。今更ですが...

 

今回は考えさせられました。このように考えさせられる映画はシンドラーのリスト以来かもというぐらい久しぶりです。その点においても観る価値のある映画だと思います。


英語においては舞台はスコットランドでしたが、強烈なスコットランドアクセントは皆無でしかも2時間30分以上の長さの割にはセリフが圧倒的に少ないので、舞台はスコットランドのくせに!?わかりやすい部類に入ると思います。
