オーストラリア

海外移住するとしたら、オーストラリアはリスト上位に来ます。オーストラリアの醍醐味は田舎ですね。地元のスーパーに行くだけでも毎回興奮していたと思います。２０代のころ３年ほどお世話になっていたので、思い入れのとても強い国です。いわゆるエアーズロック（ウルル）に行くには最寄りのアリススプリングスに行かなくてはならないのですが、そこで当時ひょんなことからアボリジニーの方の家に滞在することができました。 この人実は映画にもなった人でアデレード近くで起きた少女殺人事件で逮捕されのちに冤罪となったアボリジニのマックス・スチュワートさんでした。（https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Stuart ご参考までに）ある晩皆でお酒を飲んでいたのですが、マックスさんが猟銃を取り出して、以下のようなことを私に言いました。
"If it's still in the war、 I would've shot you."
ぞ～。しかしよく逃げ出さなかった当時の自分よくわからん！
もう２５年以上前のことですが、さすがに忘れることのできない記憶の一つです。いまもさほど変わらないですが、当時の自分はさらに拍車をかけた能天気でその夜以降も数日居候！！していましたが、第２次世界大戦中日本軍がオーストラリア北部を空襲したことくらいは聞いていましたので、日本人代表のごとく謝っておいた記憶もあります。

今回の映画”オーストラリア”の後半日本軍が空襲するシーンがあり数十年ぶりに昔の出来事を思い出した次第です。

今回の映画ニコール・キッドマンとヒュージャックマンはともにオーストラリア出身ですが、ハリウッド生活が長いせいかそこまで強烈なオージーアクセントは見受けられませんでした。一方脇役のオージーたちはこてこてオーストラリアアクセントなので手ごわいです。久しぶりのオージーアクセントに耳が慣れ始めたころには映画が後半になっているというなんとも許しがたいですね。
しかも以下のオージーフレーズ
