「ふたりの女王」は、16世紀のイギリス女王メアリー1世とエリザベス1世の複雑な対立と関係を鮮やかに描いた 2018年のアメリカ合衆国・イギリス合作の歴史映画。  イスラム教のシーア派とスンニ派の対立同様、今回の映画の中でキリスト教におけるカトリックとプロテスタントの対立が描かれており、表面上は同じ神を信仰していても人間である限り対立は生じるのですね。
サーシャ・ローナとマーゴット・ロビーがメアリーとエリザベスを演じた演技は、その時代の雰囲気や情熱を見事に表現しており、彼女たちの感情の起伏や決断の難しさが鮮明に描かれていました。特に、二人の女王が初めて対面する場面や手紙のやりとりなど、相手への複雑な思いが伝わってくる場面は胸を打つものがありました。特に初めて対面した際、こわもてのエリザベス女王がメアリーに劣等感を打ち明けるところは涙腺が少し緩みました。 しかしメアリー演じるサーシャ・ローナは奇麗ですね。当方男ですが劣等感感じまくりです。
