1969年、北アイルランドのベルファストが舞台。今回はリスニング最難関の一つに挙げてもいいでしょう。容赦なしのアイリッシュアクセントで、初めの１５分で私の小脳のキャパ超えしました。とはいいつつも一方アクセントで個人的に最も美しいと感じるのがアイリッシュです。本物のアイリッシュはまるで旋律を奏でているかのよう。あの音の流れは、憧れる一方で、BBCやアメリカのアクセントで日々蹂躙されてきた私の脳には、受け皿がまだないのです。何年かかるかわかりませんが、残りの人生をかけてきっと極めてやります。
今回主人公の母親はドラマ、ハイランダーの 主人公、アフリカのキリンの化身カトリーナ・バルフ。相変わらず手足のみならず首も長い。 ハイランダーの際は周りのスコティッシュアクセントに囲まれている中、数少ないオーソドックスなブリティッシュを話していたので、私にとってはまるでオアシスのような存在でしたが、今回はその彼女もこてこてアイリッシュで応戦しています。
今回もアイルランド地方特有の土臭いというか人間臭いというか飾らない雰囲気で終始話が展開していきます。映画寅さんのアイリッシュバージョンの感じなのかはわかりませんが、引きこもりがちの私でも人間がもっと好きになりました。アイルランドに興味のある方には外せない一本でしょうね。
