    マンチェスター・バイ・ザ・シー

    だまされました。マンチェスターといって連想するものは？　サッカーのマンU、ベッカムなどあると思います。今回のミッションであるイギリス英語を極めるに基づいてタイトル”マンチェスター・バイ・ザ・シー”（海辺のマンチェスター）に映画タイトルだけで飛びついたのですが。 ウィキによると マンチェスター・バイ・ザ・シー (Manchester-by-the-Sea)、または単にマンチェスター (Manchester) とは、アメリカ合衆国のマサチューセッツ州エセックス郡ケープアンに位置する町。  一方で、地図で見るとイギリスのマンチェスターは埼玉同様海なしでした。でもですよ、海のない埼玉県民がビーチにあこがれるのと同様、今回も海にあこがれるイギリスマンチェスター市民の話であってほしかった。マンチェスター・バイ・ザ・シーはイギリスなのか否なのかは紛らわしいですが、海外の人が埼玉は海なしなんて知らないと同じことです。世界に埼玉は一つなのにマンチェスターはなぜ２個もあるんだ！　ひょっとして４個も５個もあるかもしれん。ということで今回は先のミッションと外れるのでパスしようかと思いましたが、なにごともご縁なので、視聴いたしました。

    やはり移民大国アメリカの英語は、英語を母国語としない人に話す機会が多いせいか、聞きやすいです。
    内容に関しては自分の火の不始末で起きた火事で子供たちをいっきに失った父親の話です。映画パールハーバーで主演のベンアフレックの弟ケイシーアフレックがその父親役なのですが、さすがにそのような過去があるのでとことんくらい。熱演と言ったら矛盾しますが、陰のある男を終始冷めて演じています。なんか目が死んでいるというか作り笑いの際も笑ってない男でしたが『マンチェスター・バイ・ザ・シー』でアカデミー主演男優賞です。
