ウィンブルドン

『ウィンブルドン』(Wimbledon)は、2004年のイギリス映画。ウィンブルドンを舞台としている。野球と言ったら甲子園。テニスといったらウィンブルドンなのでテニスの内容かなとは思いましたが、思いっきりそうでした。私のテニスとのかかわりは、学生1年時に参加したテニサー依頼、約30年前。当時も今も全くテニスに関心がないので、多分、受験の険しい道の後、異性との出会いを求めてテニスに参加したことは想像に難くありません。ということでテニスに関しては全く分からない状態です。特に今回驚いたのはテニスではスコアがゼロの際なぜloveなのか全く不思議です。今回の映画はもちろんテニスのことだらけなのですが、アメリカ出身のテニスプレイヤーとイギリス人テニスプレイヤーの恋愛も同時並行で描かれています。二人ともプロとして強い上昇志向のため彼女が言ったセリフが ”Love means nothing in tennis, zero. It only means you lose.” (loveはテニスでは何も意味しない。恋に落ちたら、負けるのみ。)。うまいね。
その他アメリカ人側から見たイギリス人への批判(言動によくsorryを使うなど)がありましたが、似ているようで違う文化、興味深く視聴しました。
